Learning Management Systems

3) LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

What are they?

In education, a learning management system (LMS) is a software that facilitates the management, implementation and evaluation of digital learning processes. It is a centralised system (usually login and password enabled) or an education

hub if you will, where lessons can be created and managed, assessments can be created and assigned, students can be graded, discussions can be facilitated, and learner analysis can be Readenabled.

On the Mona campus of The UWI, the primary LMS that we use is Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) and is named OurVLE (Our Virtual Learning Environment). OurVLE houses a number of features (blocks, resources and activities) which if strategically employed, can effectively support teaching and learning and increase learner engagement.
