Vision

The vision of the CETL Mona Campus is to work with faculty to promote excellence in teaching and foster deep learning through learner-centred teaching and learning

MIssion Statement

The CETL Mona Campus is committed to improving the quality of teaching and learning at The University of the West Indies, Mona through face-to-face modalities, blended/hybrid, hyflex and online learning. To this end, the Centre will:

  • Provide training for faculty in the principles and practices of learner-centred teaching and learning;
  • Employ digital technologies to further develop and expand research and teaching activities, and the dissemination of relevant information on teaching and learning in higher education for faculty and staff;
  • Create opportunities for the development of pedagogical skills of faculty, enabling them to meet their course goals and objectives and the diverse learning styles/preferences of students.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT: GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The CETL is guided by its commitment to promoting and supporting continuous improvement in teaching and learning at the UWI through a broad range of programmes, research-based pedagogies, services, and resources. There is an ongoing effort to develop a culture of excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment by:

  • Highlighting "best-practice" pedagogies, informed by assessment of student learning
  • Encouraging innovative and transformative teaching
  • Fostering development of sustained reflective practice and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
  • Facilitating university-wide dialogue and collaboration among colleagues
  • Supporting all modes of delivery, including face-to-face, blended/hybrid, hyflex and online
  • Facilitating faculty efforts in assessing student learning
  • Rewarding excellence in teaching.
