How Do I Borrow?

1. Identify material.

2. If RBC, complete RBC form indicating loan period, (O/N, 3 day or 3 hours according to which copies are available). Wait for staff to fetch book.

3. If, Open Shelf, pull from shelf and take to Circulations Desk

3. Go to circulations Desk with ID and book

4. Note due date/time

All loan transactions are carried out at the circulations desk; follow the above steps for any type of material

Fines

Fines begin to accrue if a borrowed item is not returned by the due date. The existing rates are:

  • RBC overnight loan   -    $50.00  per day
  • RBC 3-hour loan       -    $20.00  per hour
  • Open-shelf             -       $10.00 per day

Borrowing privileges are suspended when item(s) on loan become overdue or when the total fines reach $100.

The following are not available for loan outside the Library

  • Reference books
  • Newspapers
  • Theses
  • West Indies and Special Collections
  • Government Serials/UN Collections documents
  • World Bank's Caribbean Public Information material

Renewals & Holds/Reservations

​​​-Open Shelf Items may be renewed for a further loan period if:

  • they have not been requested by other readers
  • they are not overdue
  • the borrower has not had them for two consecutive loan periods.

Holds & Reservations

Is the item you want already loaned? Create a hold request/reservation so that you can access it as soon as it is returned.

-Only items from the open shelf may be reserved. 

-A student can reserve an item by completing the yellow reservation slip located by the circulation desk.  From this reservation slip, the Library staff will create a hold request

-Reservations may also be made online from your UWIlinC account
