Library Orientation: Cite Sources

The pages of this guide identify ways to get help using the Library and its resources

Citation - A (Very) Brief Introduction

Managing Your Citations

Cite Your Sources Using a Standard Format or Style

Give credit where credit is due; cite your sources.
Citing or documenting the sources used in your research serves two purposes, it gives proper credit to the authors of the materials used, and it allows those who are reading your work to learn more by reading the sources that you have listed as references. Knowingly representing the work of others as your own is plagiarism., and you should do your very best to avoid that risk to your reputation as a scholar. Citing the sources of information you present in your your paper or research project is therefore an integral element of academic writing.

There are also standards for how authors cite and provide references in their work.  These standards are usually available in the form of a document often referred to as a Style Guide.

Citation/Style Guides Used at The UWI

The UWI uses a number of style guides Look through the list provided at this site to determine the appropriate guide for your Faculty. Links to the full text of each style are also provided for your easy access.
