Circulation & Access Services: Access: free or fee-based

This guide relates to the borrowing polices and library services offered by the Alma Jordan Library at the St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies

Free Access

Either free or fee-based access may be granted on application:

 

(A) (I)   INDIVIDUALS PURSUING SCHOLARLY RESEARCH

 

(i) Single occasion use:

 

Free access may be allowed to persons seeking information on a single occasion. Such persons are to be asked to sign the Visitor’s Book.

 

(ii) Two weeks free access:

 

Free access may be allowed for the pursuit of scholarly research WHERE THE NEED CANNOT BE MET BY OTHER LIBRARY SERVICES IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. An application form must be completed and a response given after two (2) working days.

 

(II)    UWI ALUMNI Omega Members

 

Access is free for one year upon presentation of valid UWIAA Omega membership ID card. Lifetime UWIAA members are provided access.

 

(III)     STUDENTS, FACULTY AND ACADEMIC MEMBERS FROM OTHER UNIVERSITIES

 

Use is free for two weeks, on presentation of a valid ID card from such institutions. Such persons are required to fill in an application form. They will be registered immediately and issued with an ID card. No renewals are permitted. For longer registration periods see Section B (III).

 

(IV)     STAFF OF GOVERNMENT MINISTRIES ON ASSIGNMENT PURSUANT TO THEIR PORTFOLIO AND STAFF OF FOREIGN EMBASSIES/MISSIONS

 

Use is free for period needed but not exceeding 1 year, based on presentation of suitable evidence/identification, e.g. a letter from the Permanent Secretary/Head of Department, or Ambassador/High Commissioner.

 

(V)      INFORMATION PROFESSIONALS (Local/ Regional/ International, both practicing and retired)

Reading and reference privileges may be granted for six months to such persons upon presentation of a letter or referral, identification from a relevant Institution and location of the users’ name in a relevant professional Directory.
 

(VI)     NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS

Use is free for two weeks, based on presentation of suitable evidence/identification, e.g. a letter from the President/Head of the NGO. Persons are required to complete an application form. For longer registration periods see Section B (III)
