Information Literacy is "the ability to locate and use information in all formats". 1
This guide was created using the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Standards on Information Literacy (IL) to help you to understand the concept of information literacy. This, in an effort to improve teaching and learning at the University of the West Indies. This guide identifies each IL standard and the skills you need to fully engage in the process of becoming information literate. Additionally, each standard is linked to Library/University resources that can help you in this process.
How is this guide organised:
The tabs above will take you to pages that address each standard. The middle column provides some explanation on the standard. On the left, you will find links to library resources related to the specific standard. In the right column, you will find Internet resources that are related to the specific standard. The sub-pages indicate performance indicators or measures for the respective IL standards, and provides suggestions and links to Library tutorials that measure that particular skill. This guide also includes useful resources related to the concept of information literacy by subject specialty.
Kindly contact any Librarian in the UWI Campus Libraries for more guidance.
