Information and support for Mona postgraduate students.

UNDER RENOVATION:

WE ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF RENOVATING THE POSTGRADUATE  AREA  IN THE MAIN LIBRARY.

THE PGLC AT THE TOP OF THE SCIENCE LIBRARY IS AVAILABLE. CHECK IT OUT. YOU CAN BOOK SMALL SEMINAR ROOMS THERE FOR GROUPWORK.

THE POSTGRADUATE LEARNING COMMONS

The Postgraduate Learning Commons (PGLC) is the area in the (a) Main and (b) Science & Engineering Libraries exclusively for current, registered postgraduate students from all UWI faculties.

Access is restricted to students registered at the University of the West Indies in postgraduate programmes.
"Here you have tools, room to collaborate, equipment, advice, research options,
and access to expert information.
Now it is up to you to build something worthwhile:
a paper, a presentation, an education."  EDUCAUSE

The facilities in the PGLC include:

  • Reading room
  • Computer lab
  • Conference room
  • Small seminar rooms for group discussion.
  • Scanner, printer
  • Newspapers
  • Laptop loans
  • Whiteboards 
  • Librarian to assist with finding sources, formatting papers, thesis/research paper consultations

Opening Hours

Monday-Friday   8:30 am - 6:00 am
Saturday        8:30 am - 12:00 midnight
Sunday  12:00 noon - 8:00 pm (but CLOSED for July &  August)

ENTERING THE PGLC / SWIPE CARD

Postgraduate students should ensure that their UWI ID card has swipe card capabilities.

Please make enquiries when you are taking yur I.D. photo and when you are collecting the card.

At the start of the semester the swipe feature may be unavailable. You will be given your ID card but it will not have the blue coloured swipe feature.

Return about 2 weeks later and ask if the swipe feature is ready.

Don't wait too long to get it.

 

To enter the Postgraduate Learning Commons upstairs the library you are to swipe your card.

We will show you how. It's simple.

HOW TO BOOK A SEMINAR ROOM

There are seminar rooms and conference rooms that graduate students book for their academic use.

Please note:

  • Phone 970-6619   to make a booking or come in.
  • Bookingas are for groups. Each group must have at least 3 persons.
  • Bookings are for three hours.
  • Students are encouraged to bring their own Dry Erase markers as whiteboards are provided.
     
  • The conference room can also be booked for larger groups.
