INTERLIBRARY LOANS

Q. Who may borrow materials through the Cave Hill interlibrary Loan arrangement?

Faculty, staff and post graduate students at the UWI Cave Hill campus as well as UWI retirees from the academic, senior administrative and professional categories, may access the interlibrary loan service.

Q. What can I request?

Patrons can request articles, books, book chapters and pamphlets.


Q. Am I able to get chapters scanned from Books?

The interlibrary loan service facilitates access to materials not available in the Cave Hill Libraries. This is inclusive of chapters scanned from books; complying with copyright restrictions in the process.

 

Q. Am I able to get articles scanned from Journals?

Yes, bearing in mind copyright regulations.

 

Q. How do I submit my request?

Request may be submitted by email to  smlillending@cavehill.uwi.edu; or downloading  ILL form complete and submit via email; fax.  Forms can also be submitted at the library’s Circulation Desk.

 

Q. How do I find out whether or not you have what I want?

Patron fills out a request form with the bibliographic information and other relevant details, with feedback to be given within 24 hours of the submission of the request.

 

Q. How much does it cost for interlibrary loans?

All users who access the interlibrary loan service are required to pay for any costs incurred. Academic staff however, are not required to pay for materials that are course related. The cost of the item to patrons is dependent on the charge stipulated by the supplying library.

Q. What is the length of loan period

The loan period is usually determined by the lending library and may range from four- six weeks.   Loans can be extended or renewed however; loan extensions are granted at the discretion of the lending library. Any restrictions on use of material loaned e.g. (item cannot leave the host library) will also be indicated by the lending library.

Q. Are there any renewals?

If renewal is desired, Interlibrary Loans he/she should be contacted at least forty-eight (48) hours before the date due; loans are renewed at the discretion of the supplying library; and overdue items are not renewed.
