Engineering Division: Resources and Services: Engineering eBooks

These guides introduce the services and resources of the Engineering Division of the Alma Jordan Library. Please feel free to contact the staff of Division directly for guidance.

What is an ebook?

An electronic book (e-book) is a text presented in a format which allows it to be read on a computer or handheld device.

Sometimes the equivalent of a conventional printed book, e-books can also be born digital.

They can consist simply of the electronic text and images or may also contain extras, such as audio, video or hyperlinks.

Ebooks are available on and off campus

Please note that not all eBooks are available for downloading or reading offline.  EBook access is governed by digital rights management (DRM) systems, which are used by vendors/publishers to prevent unauthorized reproduction of their books.  In addition to this, eBook availability can be restricted by user option models- single, three or multi-user options

In order to borrow or 'download' eBooks (those which can be borrowed), you would need to do the following:

  • create a personal user account
  • download  certain software to read these eBooks
  • download certain applications to access them via your mobile and other devices

Please see our page on Software and Apps in this guide for further information.
