What is an ebook?
An electronic book (e-book) is a text presented in a format which allows it to be read on a computer or handheld device.
Sometimes the equivalent of a conventional printed book, e-books can also be born digital.
They can consist simply of the electronic text and images or may also contain extras, such as audio, video or hyperlinks.

DIRECTORY OF OPEN ACCESS BOOKS (DOAB)
The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) is a discovery service for Open Access monographs. It provides a searchable index to peer-reviewed monographs and edited volumes published under an Open Access business model, with links to the full texts of the publications at the publisher’s website or repository. DOAB is open to all academic publishers and covers all subject areas and all languages. Currently there are 5959 Academic peer-reviewed books from 169 publishers. In 2015, the DOAB received the Brill/IFLA Open Access Award.

Ebooks (EBSCO) provides access to your library’s eContent collection. eContent is the digital version of books, journals, and database content.
When accessing EBSCO single-user titles, it is important to note the following:
1. the item can only be read online (cannot be downloaded)
2. the item becomes available to another user ONLY after approx 30 mins of inactivity
3. the item can be placed on hold by creating a personal account

Please note that not all eBooks are available for downloading or reading offline. EBook access is governed by digital rights management (DRM) systems, which are used by vendors/publishers to prevent unauthorized reproduction of their books. In addition to this, eBook availability can be restricted by user option models- single, three or multi-user options
In order to borrow or 'download' eBooks (those which can be borrowed), you would need to do the following:
- create a personal user account
- download certain software to read these eBooks
- download certain applications to access them via your mobile and other devices
