New Law Students' Library Guide: Our Services

An introduction to the Law Library's resources, services and spaces for new and continuing students at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies.

Law Library Tours

The Law Library conducts tours for new and continuing students at the beginning of the semester. Some tours may coincide with your tutorial sessions on Legal Methods and Writing. Students should make every effort to attend library tours at the beginning of their journey through the University as this invaluable training is the bedrock of becoming of a great lawyer with the necessary research skills.

Resource Training

The Law Library conducts training sessions throughout the year for students in areas such as:

  • Using the WILIP Index
  • OSCOLA Referencing Guide
  • Use of Online Legal Resources
  • Database training
    • How to use Lexis+
    • How to use vLex
    • How to use Westlaw

Times for these training sessions will be posted.

Alternatively, students can request Research Training on Demand.

Research Training on Demand

Research Training on Demand is for students (group of 5 or more) to request training sessions on areas of Resource Training and other research topics.

Librarians can set up a training session that meets your specific needs or as a general overview of a particular area covered in a previous training session.

It is important to note that Librarians are unable to do student's research projects but can provide a general guide and assist with search queries.
