The PhD & Library Scrutiny: Introduction

Tools and tips offered towards understanding the Library's role in the PhD thesis process at the UWI St Augustine Campus

Some PhD humour

"Piled Higher and Deeper" (PhD) is the comic strip about life (or the lack thereof) in academia. It pokes fun at grad students, research and procrastination. Creator, Jorge Cham got his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, and was a full-time Instructor and researcher at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) from 2003-2005.

Welcome

A theses is a treatise prepared for the award of a research degree. It provides useful research content that may not be available on the internet or published as a book or an article.

This guide includes:

  • Guidance on how to find and use theses
  • An outline of the Library's role with regard to thesis scrutiny
  • Citation conventions, student policies and links to style guides
  • Further readings available at the St Augustine Campus Libraries.

The tabs above take you to pages addressing each of these issues as well as instructions on using available tools, resources and books for the completion of a PhD thesis. Kindly contact any Librarian in the UWI Campus Libraries for more guidance.

Please share with me the usefulness of this guide in the feedback space to the left, Thank you!
